Echoes of Koryoin:
Untold Tales of Ethnic Koreans

A cultural heritage project

About

Mission

"Echoes of Koryoin" is a cultural heritage project that aims to help preserve the unique culture and identity of Koryo Saram by sharing their untold tales and history through various interviews and campaigns.

History

Koryo Saram refers to the ethnic Koreans who reside in the former Soviet Union territories, particularly in Central Asia. The Koryo Saram's ancestors were among the first Korean immigrants to move to Russia in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, primarily to escape poverty and seek better opportunities. Today, the Koryo Saram community maintains a distinct cultural identity, blending Korean heritage with influences from their Central Asian environment.

Hi! My name is Harin and I am a South Korean student currently going to high school in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Growing up in Almaty, I myself have encountered numerous Koryo Saram diasporas and have been inspired by them to create this project. I hope that through my blogs and podcast, I can spread awareness and appreciation towards this valuable piece of history and culture.
